Transport use to get to work or study

Overwhelmingly the most common means of getting to work was by car - 42%

Other popular methods were train (9.8%) and walking (9%).  Only 4.6% used the bus, 1.9% using other forms of transport.  (32% said this question did not apply to them.)


Cycling

Among the 604 households, a total of 235 bicycles were in use.

Transport difficulties

Just under half of the people responding to the survey had difficulties getting to and from Lindfield, with 10% having problems on a regular basis.

The single most common cause of travel difficulties was said to be the unreliability of local buses. (See figures 2 & 2a over page).

Sharing cars

A large number of people (44%) shared cars for social activities, and 17% did so for shopping.  But just 4% shared cars to take children to school.

There were lots of comments on the bus service.  42 people mentioned problems such as infrequent and unreliable buses.  The lack of a bus to Princess Royal hospital was mentioned, as was the lack of buses in the evenings.  Four people mentioned problems of disability access.
