TRANSPORTTransport use to get to work or study Overwhelmingly the most common means of getting to work was by car - 42% Other popular methods were train (9.8%) and walking (9%). Only 4.6% used the bus, 1.9% using other forms of transport. (32% said this question did not apply to them.) CyclingAmong the 604 households, a total of 235 bicycles were in use. Transport difficulties Just under half of the people responding to the survey had difficulties getting to and from Lindfield, with 10% having problems on a regular basis. The single most common cause of travel difficulties was said to be the unreliability of local buses. (See figures 2 & 2a over page). Sharing carsA large number of people (44%) shared cars for social activities, and 17% did so for shopping. But just 4% shared cars to take children to school. Bus serviceThe breakdown of people’s opinions on local bus services is as follows:
(Base: 1,149) (Note: Many people did not have an opinion, perhaps because so few use buses.)
(Base: 738) There were lots of comments on the bus service. 42 people mentioned problems such as infrequent and unreliable buses. The lack of a bus to Princess Royal hospital was mentioned, as was the lack of buses in the evenings. Four people mentioned problems of disability access. Figure 2 Figure 2a
